Removable partial dentures (RPDs) are widely used to replace missing teeth in order to restore both function and aesthetics for the partially edentulous patient
Conventional RPD design is frequently bilateral and consists of a major connector that bridges both sides of the arch. However, they may either replace one or more missing natural teeth on one side (Unilateral) or both the sides (Bilateral) of a jaw, thereby prevent the adjacent remaining teeth from shifting, restores function and aesthetics. Denture enables you to speak and eat more comfortably. They prevent facial muscles from sagging and impart an overall younger look to you.
Following Are The Types Of Removable Partial Dentures:
Flexible Partial Denture
Flexible dentures are a kind of partial denture but these ones are made of different materials than ordinary partial dentures. Most flexible dentures are made of a thin thermoplastic such as nylon, compared to the thicker, more rigid acrylic used in full dentures.
They are the type of partial dentures which are extremely comfortable on wearing owing to their flexible nature. Flexible denture is the ideal choice for patients allergic to the acrylic resin. They are light in weight and provide a more realistic look. They restore the structure and functions of the missing teeth and prevent adjacent teeth from shifting. Flexible partial dentures have thin finger-like extensions that fit or snap into natural concavities in the crowns of the teeth near the gum line. Our best dentists in Jamnagar at Perfect Dental® can provide you variety of options in flexible partial dentures including Clickflex, Dentsply, Valplast, Macrodent etc. All our flexible partial dentures are made by India’s best laboratory in Mumbai, hence availability of this partial is about two to three weeks.
Cast Partial Dentures
A Cast Partial Denture (CPD) is defined as a removable partial denture consisting of a cast metal framework that contains artificial teeth set in an acrylic resin. As compared to conventional acrylic denture, Cast Partial Denture is stronger, more durable and retentive. The cast metal partial denture is stronger, less bulky and offers a great fit. This partial denture has a metal framework to which we attach higher quality denture teeth. At Perfect Dental® our special metal framework is made by India’s best laboratory in Mumbai; hence availability of this partial is about two to three weeks.
Precision Attachment Partial Dentures
Precision Attachment Partial Dentures have an interlocking device, one component of which is fixed to an abutment or abutments and the other is integrated into a removable prosthesis in order to stabilize and/or retain it. This type of partial dentures are less commonly used due to its complex design and high cost of fabrication. Precision attachment partial denture is stronger, less bulky and offers a great fit. This partial denture has a metal framework to which we attach higher quality denture teeth. At Perfect Dental® our special metal framework is made by India’s best laboratory in Mumbai, hence availability of this partial is about two to three weeks.

- No matter how thin the dentures are made, they may still feel bulky.
- They may tip if you chew from one side, allowing food particles and liquid to pass under it.
- Dentures may make your tongue feel crowded or may cause slight gaging sensation.
- Your mouth may feel sore or irritated until your ridges are used to supporting denture.
- After a few weeks, as you become used to wearing partial dentures, these problems should decrease. If you continue to experience excessive soreness or irritation in any area of your mouth, please contact us.
- Your saliva flow may increase temporarily.
- Insertion and removal of partial denture may be difficult for first few days, you will have to train yourself by looking in the mirror while inserting and removing denture from your mouth. This may take a few days to learn the process.
- First recall is usually scheduled within 48 hours of denture delivery to correct any occlusal disharmony and check for the immediate tissue soreness.
- Next recall is usually scheduled after a week to check for tissue reaction and do any minor adjustments that your denture may require.
- During recall after a week, if you are comfortable with wearing you partial denture and everything is fine then the next routine recall is scheduled after a month and then every 6 months to determine any tissue reaction and amount of ridge resorption.
- Dentures help stabilize the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) by restoring vertical dimensions of your mouth or Jaw and so you may start feeling relief from any pain you may have in Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ).
Appearance Of Face And Teeth (Partial Denture)
- Dentures may improve appearance of your face by providing support to your lips and checks.
- When you first get partial dentures, your facial expressions may seem different but more natural expressions will return once you start getting used to with wearing dentures.
Speaking / Speech

- Initially you may find your denture loose while you laugh, cough or even smile. To reposition the dentures, close your teeth together gently & swallow.
Mastication Or Eating With Dentures
- Initially you may find it difficult to chew with your new partial dentures.
- Once you are used to speak properly when your dentures are on and wear it for the whole day without any discomfort then after a few days you can try eating with your dentures. It is best to start with soft food that does not require too much chewing.
- You will have to learn to chew from both the sides simultaneously. If you chew from one side the denture may tip on one side, allowing food particles and liquid to pass under it. This is known as see-saw effect.
- Once you are comfortable with chewing soft food without any soreness then you can gradually start chewing regular food. You can start with cutting your food into small pieces and chew slowly from back teeth.
- Avoid eating sticky or very hard food until you have more experience with wearing dentures.

How do flexible partial dentures stay in place?
The metal framework goes across the roof of your mouth (upper jaw) or around the backs of the teeth (lower jaw), and hooks onto some of the remaining teeth. These hooks, or clasps, help the partial denture stay in place, so it is important to have these placed on healthy, stable teeth.

You can begin by eating soft foods cut into small pieces. Chew on both sides of the mouth to keep the pressure even. Do not chew gum or eat very sticky or hard foods. If you have missing teeth, wearing a removable partial denture can help you speak more clearly.
What is better a bridge or a partial?
If you are only missing one or two teeth, a bridge may be a better option for you. Partial dentures tend to be less expensive and are typically preferred if you are missing several teeth If you are at risk for more tooth loss, you may want to choose a partial denture since it’s a cheaper alternative.
Do partials damage teeth?
Using sectional or poorly designed partial dentures has led to unwanted damage to adjacent teeth and also might lead to the unexpected accident of denture swallowing.
Can you get partial dentures with no back teeth?
For upper denture wearers without lower back teeth, it is crucial to wear a partial lower denture. A partial denture is one of the most cost-effective ways of replacing the teeth, but some people choose to get a dental implant overdenture, which provides a more stable fit over traditional dentures.
